Where has the time gone - I didnt realise I hadnt updated my blog for a while.

Our grandson, Lachlan (8 yr) has been staying with us and going to a holiday vacation programme for 2 weeks. I had forgotton what it is like to have a child in the house and work full time. I'm sure that as we get older nature meant us to be Grandparents so we can return the children.

There were no place available for him on Wednesday this week on the programme so I took a days leave from work and we visited the Fremantle Prison!!!

Convicts came to Western Australia for the first time in 1850 and one of their first projects was to construct Fremantle Prison. It was decommissioned as a maximum security prison in 1991, and was used continously as a prison for 140 years. It is hard to imagine that as late as 1991 there were NO toilet facilities in the cells - buckets were still being used.

Walking through the exercise yards and the tiny cells that housed 2 inmates, it is easy to see why we had the huge prison riot in 1988.

Here is the first LO from that visit.
