This morning we packed up and left Cowell. We said goodbye the Nelly, the 2 year old staffy dog next door to us.Nelly was excited to be going fishing with her human and didn’t have much time to pose for me.
We arrived at Whyalla around lunch time to find our caravan park is situated right on the water. We all are spending most of our time sitting outside and watching the water and the water activities. Here are Lance & John, discussing our outlook.
Lance & I took a drive around town and saw the well known sculpture called “The Loaded Dog” outside the Whyalla Veterinary Clinic.
The Loaded Dog sculpture is based on on the dog from the Henry Lawson’s famous Australian bush tale “The Loaded Dog'”. The story is about a playful mischievous retriever, Tommy, who makes off with a stick of explosive. Tommy drags the fuse through the campfire, lighting it and creating mayhem in the chase that follows.
We drove past the maritime museum where we saw the 1941 HMAS Whyalla, the largest landlocked ship in Australia. Whyalla was known for the warships it built during the war. Whyalla is an iron ore town and has a huge steel mill.Whyalla has more than 100 years of iron ore and steelmaking and evidence of this is around the Whyalla landscape.
A lot of cameras were facing the water at sunset, including mine. Here is sunset at Whyalla South Australia.
