On The Road Again………………..Day 30

22 April

Today we left our comfortable spot at Orroroo and backtracked through Jamestown, Clare and Auburn. From Auburn to Kapunda, it was all new to us. At least by coming back through Jamestown I got a better look at the VW car on the hotel balcony. Over the door was a stuffed crocodile and numerous other bits and bobs.

We arrived just after lunch and I had a quick look around the town. Sidney Kidman had a lot of influence in this town, Not only was he known for his cattle but also for his fine horses. Kapunda was home to some of the largest horse sales ever seen. Buyers came from interstate and overseas to purchase horses from Kidman’s properties. The town’s people on the streets to watch the big mobs thunder into town. On a plaque on one building it was noted that sale yards were built behind the building which is in the main street. At one point Kidman owned 3% of the land in Australia.

This is the main street in Kapunda.

The caravan park we are staying in is part of the footy oval, tennis courts, trotting track and gold course. They have a small man made lake to supply water for the grassed areas and this is a view of our night sky tonight from outside our caravan.
