Sunday 30 March 2014:
A nothing day , no photos, just house keeping like the washing which always has to be done where ever you are. No where here to get the hot water system repaired.
Monday 31st March:
This morning we left Ceduna to continue travelling eastwards. The wind was a dry HOT one and people were saying it was 41 celius. We headed for Kimba. On our way we stopped at Wirrulla, just a pub and a General Store and great facilities for travellers, like tables etc.
Lance stretched his back while we had a look around.
Feeling better for a break and a walk around, we got back into ours and continued our journey east. Lunch time saw us in Wudinna, known for its granite quarries. The granite is shipped around Australia and to Asian markets. This granite was employed in the construction of “The Australian Farmer”, an 8 metre (26 feet tall) statue that was carved in the town as a community project to commemorate the early settlers. It is an impressive statue.
Finally we reached Kimba, the town that marks the half way point between East and West. It was now VERY hot. We camped for free at the Recreation grounds in the town and for Happy Hour, were joined by a couple from Queensland. Kimba is known for its large population of Pink & Grey Galah birds and has its own BIG Galah, all 8 metres of it. Here it is, the first of my BIG Icons photo.
Tuesday 1 April:
Leaving Kimba we decided to stop at Iron Knob for morning tea and ring the Coromal Caravan Hotline to find the nearest repairman who could fix our Hot water system. The answer came back we needed to get to Port Pirie where we are at the moment. Tomorrow, hopefully the Hot water system, which was working before we left home, will be fixed.
Wednesday 2 April:
This morning we to Port Germein, a town I was interested in seeing as one of my ancestors lived here back in the early 1900’s. It was here I saw a DOG IN A CAR. His name is Tahu and his owner and two friends were travelling from Canberra to Roxby Downs. Tahu’s spot in the vehicle was on top of the luggage with just a little bit of head room.
Port Pirie has some beautiful old buildings, including the original Railway Station which has been restored and is now a museum.
At least the weather has cooled down from yesterday’s 40 degree heat to something more bearable like a cool 25 degrees celius. The people in the caravan next to us are also from WA and have been stranded here in Port Pirie as their car had caught fire. Its taken the insurance 2 weeks to come to the decision the car is a total write-off and they have to get a special permit to drive the car back to West Australia where they can license it. Makes our Hot water problems seem minor in comparison.
