Mount Gambier……..Days 39 & 40

3 May 2014.

Yesterday it rained and rained and rained. We did almost nothing as it was impossible to do anything without getting wet. I did check out some shops and Kurgan has a new blanket for nights.

Today it was windy and cloudy with sometimes the odd shower rain. We all decided to go down to the coast and have a look at Port MacDonnell, about 30 kms south. The wind was a howling gale coming from the ocean. It was difficult to stand outside the car to take a photo. I took this one from inside the car with the window down.

This rock appeared out of the ocean on a part of the reef offshore.

We went up to the old light house ruins where there is also a fairy penguin colony but of course it was the wrong time of the day and I don’t think even penguins would be out in this weather. But we did see these these penguins

Australian poet, Adam Lindsey Gordan  lived in Port MacDonnell for a time at this house which has been restored. It was closed as they were holding a wedding there today – good luck to the bride – hope her veil was anchored to her head.

When we returned to the caravan after lunch, Denise rang to say she had found this shop called “ Cheap As Chips” that had dog coats cheap. I bought Kurgan a furry one to wear at night and a red raincoat when he is just hanging out around the caravan in the cold.

We were at the showgrounds in Mt Gambier when I saw the sun between two clouds peeping out. I tried top get another shot but it was all over in seconds.

We spent a very cold and windy night at Mt Gambier too! The saving grace was the RSL club where we cooked our own food at the table on stone grills. There was a salad bar and it was all ridiculously cheap!!
