12th July 2014
We left our camping spot next to the cemetery and headed further eastwards. We decided to stay at Anakie and travel out to Sapphire and
Rubyvale tomorrow to have a look. Its all about the gemstone, Sapphires. Even at the small caravan park here at Anakie there are samples of all colours of sapphires. I thought they only came in blue, but they also come in yellows, green, rainbow colour as various shades of blue from pale blue to almost black.
Anakie consists of the caravan park, the hotel and the police station, but in a couple of weeks the Gemfest for 2014 will be held here where they expect over 7000 people to attend the Gemfest where all things that are sapphires are on show.
The park has a lot of Rainbow Lorikeets coming to visit. Hold onto a piece of bread and they will land on your arm to eat it. I wasn’t too sure of them at first.
They were all over the park checking out dropped crumbs of food.
Long drive of almost 300 kms today through the Drummond Ranges. We have officially moved from the Queensland Outback to the Central Highlands of Queensland. There are more trees and many different trees. No longer are we seeing the flat almost treeless plains of the outback.
