Monday March 24:
We left the park at Lake King around 8.30 and drove towards Ravensthorpe. These days its either mining nickel or farming wheat that keep the place going. After refuelling, we headed to a small place called Gibson Soak. There is a tiny general store and a hotel and a fuel bowser, not a lot else. The hotel opens at 12 noon and you can get a good coffee there. We stopped for lunch and I got my first Dog In A Car for the trip.
Champ is a 1 year old Labrador male whose owner hopes he has stopped growing as he has to lift him into his vehicle. As I turned around another little fluff ball was also hanging out his owners car while getting fuel.
After a bit of a rest and walk around we were back in cars heading for Norseman, another mining town. Gold is the big thing here. We passed through Grass Patch and Salmon Gums on our way. don’t you just love the names towns are given.
Tonight we are camped in the bush and the only sounds are Lance’s snoring and the4 trucks passing on the nearby road. We are camped at Lanceley’s rest area. The place was named in honour of Kevin Lanceley who was the Project Superintendent who supervised the building of 194 kms of the Eyre Highway between Norseman and Cocklebiddy..
Here are some photos to catch up to date”
We are ready to leave and you can the dark and stormy cloud.
