We left Wauhope Hotel camp site in the morning eager to see “The Devils Marbles”. Wow what a photographers delight.so interesting to see these round rocks balancing on other rocks.Unfortunately you can’t always pick the time of day when travelling as we are. The Devils Marbles is a sacred site for the Indigenous people.
Some of the rocks are huge.Lance is shown checking out a couple.
After spending some time wandering around the area of The Devils Marbles, we headed for Tennant Creek. Tennant Creek is known for being the last place in Australia to have a gold rush. This was back in the 1930’s when Charles Windley, a linesman for the overland telegraph line, discovered gold in the nearby ironstone hills.
We went to have a look at the Information Centre which is also home to the old gold battery. This was my first encounter with northern Australia’s green frog. I went to the toilet and saw this handsome fellow.
Just a couple of kms north of Tennant Creek is Lake Mary, a man made lake made by damming the Tennant Creek. It was a beautiful spot to stop for lunch.
It was here I also met Sabastian the Dalmation and Hilly, the camp dog.
