I did what all camera people dread doing. thinking I had downloaded my photos for the 9th May, I deleted all images off my memory card. Guess what – that’s right, I had not downloaded them. I lost my photos of the old WWII aircraft hanger and the photo display at Daly Waters. So here we are on day 56, more than half of our trip completed.
Mataranka is famous for the book written by Jeanie Gunn called “We Of The Never Never”. Mrs Gunn was the first white woman to settle in the Mataranka area. Her husband was a partner in Elsey cattle station on the Roper River, some 300 miles (483 km) south of Darwin. On 2 January 1902 the couple sailed for Port Darwin so that he could take up his role as the station's new manager. In Palmerston (Darwin), Mrs Gunn was discouraged from accompanying her husband to the station on the basis that as a woman she would be "out of place" on a station such as the Elsey.
We went out to have a look at the Elsey Cemetry.
On The way back to town we saw this Braham cow standing in the middle of the road. She took her time to amble over to her mates on the side of the road.
After lunch a few of us went down to the Barramundi feeding in the Territory Manor Motel & Caravan Park.
They are such large fish but have no teeth.
needless to say, when we saw Beer Battered barramundi on the dinner menu we decided to eat out. It was delicious.
Off to Adelaide river tomorrow.
