Our last day in Darwin, after 8 days enjoying the dry season up at the top end. Tomorrow we are heading south to Katherine before turning west to the West Australian border.
I made a wrong ID on my bird yesterday. It is a Whistling Kite, not a Black Kite. The difference is in the tail.
Today all of us spent time sorting out cars, caravans and doing washing. It is amazing how much rubbish accumulates in the car when you are driving every day. Kurgan’s water supply in the back seat has been replenished and our freezer is now full again, mainly seafood.
This afternoon we went to Aquascene. Darwin’s Doctors Gully is known for Aquascene Fish Feeding and as the Darwin Catalina Flying Boat base. It was the site of Chinese market gardens and the first fresh water supply. At high tide the water boils with hundreds of fish looking for a free feed, and the visitors are happy to oblige. This scene has become one of Darwin's best known tourist attractions.
There was a mangrove pool which had a mud crab fighting with a catfish. You can see his claws above the water.
And a few birds were present to see the action. This is a Little Black Cormorant.
Tomorrow we leave to go to Bachelor where we will stay the night so we can check out Litchfield National Park. Kurgan is visiting Denise and John while we go to the National Park.
