Our 10th wedding anniversary today and my birthday.
Today saw us buying barramundi to put into our freezer at the Fishermen’s Wharf in Darwin. We drove around the marina in which there were many fishing vessels of various types. There must be a big fishing industry here in Darwin, both commercial and tourist.
We saw a boat selling prawns direct from the boat. 2kg for $25. Our freezer now has more seafood in it than red meat.
On our way back to the caravan park we called in and had a look around the Charles Darwin National Park. Charles Darwin National Park is a new Australian National Park within the city named after Charles Darwin and on the edge of the harbour named after him. As with most of Darwin, the area was part of the defense preparations and facilities during World War 11 and most of the ammunition bunkers that were built here during this period are still present. This is genuine mangrove wetland country and at times the Midges can be a problem. They breed in the intertidal zones in the mangroves and are usually worst at sunrise and sunset.
There are a number of ammunition bunkers still in the park and one, near the entrance, is open with a WWII display in it.
We also encountered a ‘Dog In A Ute” while driving 100kms along Stuart Highway into Darwin.
Tonight the six of us are going to the Humpty Doo Pub for our anniversary/my birthday dinner.
After dinner……………….. we all ordered too much food. The serves were huge and well cooked. We all bought raffle tickets to support the local bush fire brigade but none of us won a meat tray. No wild behaviour at the pub was seen.
