Our last day in Katherine before we head south west to the West Australian border. All of us have checked our cars & vans for fruit & vegetables as these will be taken at the quarantine check point. Last night Viv provided the first course of fish with a heap of masked potatoes. Mango & ice cream desert was provided by us. A man came around the caravan park selling frozen mango. We had hope he would have some Dragon Fruit but no such luck.
This morning we did some housekeeping chores before setting off to buy water, milk and vegemite. A final visit to the Katherine museum and to see the Gypsy Moth plane flown by Dr Clyde Fenton, the first flying doctor in the Northern Territory. He commenced practice in the Northern Territory in 1923 and bought his first plane in 1934.
After a look at Dr Fenton’s old Gypsy Moth plane we went in the opposite direction to the old Springvale Station Homestead. A couple of the buildings remained and the HUGE trees surrounding the building were planted in 1879. These trees are Raintrees and are huge and very shady.
Lance is standing in front of one of these trees to give you some idea of how big they are.
One thing that has amazed us are the different brands and models of caravans on the roads. We have seen makes we have never heard of as well as seen some of the more unusual caravan. This is one in our park today. Not sure if we would call this hi-tech or low-tech.
