Yesterday we left Lake Argyle for Kununurra, 70 kms away to the north. We couldn’t get into the park in Kununurra before 10am so we were in no hurry to leave Lake Argyle. While having coffee we saw our friendly Great Bower Birds again. They were looking for crumbs around our camp site.
Kurgan was not impressed with these visitors and tried to ignore them.
By 9.45 am we were on the road again heading towards Kununurra. On our way onto the main road we again saw the fires that had been burning for a few days. There was quite a bit of smoke around and some flames.
We arrived at the Hidden Valley Caravan Park and were surprised to hear previous members of Kurgan’s pack were in the park. Carol and Alan had left us in Port Augusta and travelled south for a small bit. The cold they experienced encouraged them to head north and finally we met up again.
Today we went for a drive out to the Sandalwood factory, then onto the Hoochery Distillery, a small rum distillery here in Kununurra. They farm 4 hectares of sugar cane to keep the distillery going.
We had a good look around but bought no alcohol. I saw an old kerosene fridge in the showroom and opened it and found this creature there. (He was a stuffed model).
We then went onto look at the Ivanhoe Crossing which was closed due to flooding. I have seen photos of this crossing and have wanted to see it for many years. Here is Eric checking out the depth of the water.
Up here there is some undercover parking at one of the supermarkets. It was here we met Mercedes, another Dog In A Ute.
