Today we left our comfortable and lovely camp ground at Auburn. If you are in this area the Auburn Caravan Park is a great place to de-stress for a few days. The caravan park is at the town’s sports oval and managed by a wonderful couple, Helen & Eric. It is small but a pretty place to stay and Helen and Eric were so friendly and helpful..
We need a place to stay over the school holidays and Easter and were unable to find anything south or west of us so we decided to look north. We travelled about 150 kms north through vineyards to farmland. Orroroo is a tiny spot on the map but is actually a reasonable sized town. We on on the edge of the southern Flinders Ranges.
Passing through Spalding, we reached Jamestown, where RM Williams was born at nearby Belalie. He rose from swagman to millionaire and is known for his Australian style of bushwear world wide. Jamestown was also home to the oldest continuous butcher shop in South Australia. It was established in 1878 and still going. We did walk out of the shop with some of his own sausages and some of his own cured bacon.
Here are the men cooking the sausages tonight.
While in Jamestown we had a look at the ST JAMES Catholic Church. Some wonderful craftsmen worked on this church and the two statues are quite impressive close up.
Just as we were leaving Jamestown I saw what you would only see in the outback - - - an old VW Beetle car sitting on the balcony of the Jamestown Hotel. Look on the left of the hotel balcony. There is also a parking meter next to it.
As we were having a drink around sunset, hundreds of Sulfer Crested Cockatoos flew over us to go roost on trees at the golf course behind our caravan park. Apparently they do this every night.
Sunset from our caravan park.
