Kurgan woke me early at around 6.30 as he wanted to go for his morning walk. I opened the caravan door and saw this…………
Of course had to wait for a few minutes while I took a couple of photos. sunrise over the Murray River.
As soon as Kurgan & I got back to the caravan it started to rain and rain and rain. the good news is the rain was appreciated by the farmers of the riverland region. The bad news is the caravan leaked on my side where the window is. I up ended my mattress and placed an old towel to soak up water.
We all went for a drive to Barmera where I found the hospital which was built in the 70’s on the site of the old Barmera Hospital where my mother, Phyllis Henderson was born. As we passed a sign pointing to a small town called Winkie, I remember my grandfather talking about farming there which explains why they travelled to Barmera to the hospital.
The rain continued as we went to Berri to have a look around, all the time surrounded by vineyards and orchards. We saw the Berri Wines operation which was huge and the biggest in the region. We are used to seeing huge tall white concrete wheat silos dotted around the country, but here in the Riverland Region we see large silver metal tanks that look like wheat silos. The Berri operation has a conveyor belt high up crossing the road where they have expanded onto land across the road. We passed one winery with these tall round tanks and you could smell the wine as we passed by.
After Berri it was back to Renmark where we decided that after 5 weeks it was time to have fish and chips. Denise heard the check out girl in Woolworths telling the lady in front about her Mum opening a fish & chip shop. When we arrived at the shop, the woman had only been open for 5 days. Compliments to her though as the food tasted delicious.
This photo was taken at the back of the caravan park which backs onto a small lagoon. The sunset was a disappointment so no sunset photo.
