13th and 14th May 2014
Tuesday was spent by Lance and I waiting – waiting to get tyres fitted the waiting to get the car serviced. We now drive with nitrogen filled tyres rather than air filled tyres. Supposed to give us better wear on the tyres.
We drove up to Buninyong for lunch and had a drive up to the Mount Buninyong lookout. wow what a view. Mount Buninyong, an extinct volcanic mountain 745 metres above sea level, is a great landmark of the district. Here is one of the views of the surrounding district.
After coming back down Mt Buninyong, we travelled to a suburb called Magpies where Dan, the auto mechanic lives and operates from. He did a great job for a good price so if anyone is travelling through Ballarat and want a mechanic who can also do road side assist, phone him at Dan’s Auto 1 on 0458 114771.
Remember last post we and John & Denise got stainless steel washing lines attached to our awnings. We used ours yesterday and today John was seen hanging up his car washing clothes.
Wednesday morning saw the dawn of another cold windy morning. Our park seems to be on a hill that is windy. We went off to see the site of the Eureka Stockade. The Eureka Stockade was caused by a disagreement over what gold miners felt were unfair laws and policing of their work by government. It is the only significant civil “war” on Australian soil. This flag pole and flag marks the spot where the miners took a stand against government officials.
At lunch time I went to a hairdresser I had found to get a colour and cut. going to a new hairdresser is like to going to a new doctor. When you find a good one you hang onto them til “death do you part”. The Cutters
Chair Hairdressers have got the formula right. They were busy and when it came time to rinse the colour off my hair I found out why. You sit down in a nice looking chair that then reclines gently and the foot stool extends. The best bit then happens – it is a massage chair!!! So while I am having my hair rinsed and massaged, my back and legs are also being massaged.Again, if you are in Ballarat and need a hairdresser and a bit of pampering ring Cutters Chair on 03 53326638.
This afternoon we took a drive to look at the Victory Arch which stands over the Sturt highway. The Arch of Victory is of architectural significance to the State of victoria, being an outstanding landscape monument, in the tradition of the Roman and Napoleonic victory arches erected across major routes or carriageways. It is the only memorial arch in Victoria constructed at such a grand scale. It reminded me of the Arc de Triumphe which I saw in Paris.
We all decided to go out for tea tonight at the Ballarat Steakhouse to celebrate Lance’s and my 12th wedding anniversary which is on the 18 May. We had an excellent meal there and recommend it.
