Today is ANZAC Day and we were prepared.
Viv made a wreath from smoke bush , found the ODE and wrote it down, Denise and John had found a CD with the LAST POST on it and we had planned on our version of a gunfire breakfast, of bacon & eggs.
We were up before dawn and coaxed the fire into flames.
This is the Mulga Well ANZAC Dawn Service.
Lance laid the wreath on a stone cairn we had created the night before with the top stone featuring the words “Lest We Forget”. All our names were printed onto the stone also.
Viv then read the ODE.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them”.
The Viv read out a poem followed by Denise turning on the car radio to play “The Last Post” We followed with a minutes silence. We didn’t have “Reveille” so we played a Vera Lynn song, “We will remember them”. I think we woke everyone person who was camping at the rest area. One couple paused to compliment us on our Dawn Service in the bush.
By lunch time we arrived at Coober Pedy and set up camp in the Caravan Park.
