Road Trip – Day 46 (April 30)

An early start to the day was the order for the day. Lance stayed with Kurgan at the caravan park because no dogs were allowed into the National Park. The rest of us were up by 5.30am to drive 25kms to watch Uluru at sunset. There were hundreds of people there at the viewing platform and it was difficult to get a shot of the Rock without a person in the shot.

After the sun was up we went for a drive around Uluru after watching a few people starting out on their climb of Uluru. When you are at the base of the rock it looks almost impossible to climb.Once you have got up the first part of the climb there is a safety chain to hang onto.A Park Ranger told us this chain is 800 metres long to the top of the climb!!!!!! …………..and he has seen parents take their very young children up the climb. The traditional owners of the land ask that people choose not to climb the rock . ….. a decision easy to make when you stand and look up 350 metres into the air (the height of Uluru).

After lunch we went 50 kms out to the Olgas or as they are now known, Kuta Tjuta. Although my best photo of the Olgas was taken 50 kms away at sunset. When close to these rocks it is impossible to really get a great photo as they are so enormous.
