Road Trip – Day 49 (May 3rd)

Our first day in Alice Springs and what to do was the big decision for the day. We are as close to the dead centre of Australia as we are able to get without going into the bush on dirt track tracks. The scenery around Alice Springs is dominated by the McDonnell Ranges.

We went out to have a look at John FLynn’s  grave. Flynn founded the Royal Flying Doctor and many other services for people living in the outback. Central Australia is so isolated and water is so precious. We kept thinking of what it would have been like using camels or horses for the long trek to these areas. In some areas we have had to pay to use water for showers or fill our tanks with drinking water.

We drove up to the top of Anzac Lookout, where the local War Memorial is located. There is a 360 degree view of the town and the MacDonnell Ranges

Chores like shopping for supplies, and washing of clothes, also had to be done. In the evening we all went out to a local Vietnamese Restaurant for dinner and a pleasant time was had by all.
