Road Trip – Day 22 (April 6 – Good Friday)

This morning I remembered I hadn’t recorded the saga of the ants.

Two days ago Viv woke up to find ants everywhere in her caravan. They were in the kettle, over the bench tops and into every cupboard in the caravan. We cleaned out the cupboards, sprayed and vacuumed up the dead ants for ages. The men took all the bowls and food packets and checked for ants. Lance checked a jar of bi carb soda and found ants in it. This jar had a screw top lid and the ants had managed to get in somehow. The others were mildly affected by ants also, but Viv’s caravan was the worst affected. Two days later and there are still some ants showing their faces in Viv’s caravan.

Today we woke up to a cool wind coming from the west. No good for fishing so John & I decided to take photos of tractors we had seen around town for something to do. We stopped at an old property in town where we could see a couple of old tractors from the road. John went to the house to ask permission and met Anthony  who told us he owns almost 40 tractors, many stored on farms around the area. Anthony took the time to tell us a bit about the tractors on his property in town. Thanks Anthony.

90 photos later we left to visit a farm he told us about with lots of old farm machinery, but unfortunately no one was home. John & I are going to try again tomorrow.

So today is the day of tractors for photos. For the photographers out there, I am doing adjustments on a laptop which is harder than on a PC. We are also not always able to pick the ideal time of day we take photos.

And lots of cobwebs to photograph.

Yesterday we said goodbye to Shirley & Ron, one of our group. They have left us to wander through the rest of South Australia and through Victoria. We seem to be collecting either people from Armadale (where we used to live) of people from Mandurah, Western Australia. I have been so surprised to see so many people from Western Australia on the road.

A little sadness on tonight’s news: A boat at Venus bay has capsized resulting in 1 death and one 16 year old lost at sea. A third man managed to swim to shore. Heavy seas and up to 5 metre swells made for a bad day to go boating.

The only place open in town is the local cafe so we have all ordered fish & chips for tea tonight.

Now eaten Salt & pepper Squid and local whiting. Yummy seafood.
