Today we continued along the beautiful Victoria Highway until we reached the West Australian border where we had to undergo quarantine checks. They checked out the while car, opening our boxes and check every cupboard in the caravan. We were then pronounced OK to continue our journey. This was one highway I want to visit again.
The Victoria Highway follows the river for a little way and we came across the Bradshaw Bridge, built in 2002. There was a big sign stating no traffic was allowed on the bridge and the other end of the bridge was closed. The bridge led into the Bradshaw Army training area.
When you get a bit bored whilst driving, a passing vehicle is a welcome diversion. Quite a few cattle trucks passed us and later we saw cattle being loaded into some of these trucks.
We were now getting into Boab Tree country and saw many funny shaped ones. They ask that you do not write your name into the tree as it lasts for ever.
Here is our welcome home and a change in our time zone. We have to put back our clocks 1.5 hours so our lunch time suddenly became our morning tea time.
Just over the border was the turnoff to Lake Argyle whose claim to fame is that it is 9 times the size of Sydney Harbour. We had a 35 km drive into Lake Argyle and once again the scenery was just awesome. You can see how people fall in love with the top end of Australia. We saw smoke in the distance and as we got closer we could see fires burning.
And to prove it was fire that we saw have a look at the following photo. We actually had to stop for a bit to make sure it was safe to pass.
Lance & I quickly took the caravan off the car and headed for Kununurra to reach the Pharmacy before they shut, as Lance needed a script filled.
while in Kununurra we found a farm that sold fruit. We were hoping for rock melons, but the farmer had none due to disease. Fortunately for us he did had dragon fruit, and paw paw . Together with our frozen mango and bananas we all enjoyed a tropical fruit salad with ice cream for desert tonight.
While having a couple of drinks this Great Bower Bird came to visit. We can tell it is a male as he has some purple colouring on his neck.
No internet or phone coverage here at Lake Argyle so I will post this when we arrive in Kununurra.
