Road Trip – Day 91 (June 14)

We have spent the last 3 days wandering around Carnarvon enjoying the fresh food available from the farms here in Carnarvon. Kurgan has been enjoying his swims as there are plenty of waves with the weather we have been having. There has been some rain for a couple of days and there is quite a swell.

We have had a daily visitor – this little bird looks for bugs everyday near our campsite.

Today, 14th, we went out to the Qobba Blowholes. They were really blowing and you could hear a giant roaring just before the water came up. I noticed when standing in one spot I was able to also see a rainbow in the water being blown up.

Some days unexpected things happen that bring a smile to your face. While taking photos of the cliffs and the blowhole we saw a whale just offshore. Seeing one of these great creatures always gives me a warm and happy feeling inside.

The Qobba cliffs have seen a number of fishermen killed by King Waves. Just where we parked was a plaque naming one fisherman who was killed by a king wave in 2000. I am a bit cautious when walking on cliffs and so was stranding well back from the cliff face when this huge wave came up over the cliff.

We then drove up a dirt road to the Qobba Lighthouse to have a look at the view. It was a very narrow road and very steep.

I certainly had my fingers crossed as we negotiated the steep road back to the main road.

Heading back to town we came across these cows who decided they needed to cross the road just as we arrived. Most of the cows walked across the road in front of us and this remaining cow started giving us the evil eye. We just sat in the car waiting to see what her next move was. She went back to her calf and stood in front of it so it couldn’t cross the road. When we went past her she and her calf then crossed the road.

The time we are having in Carnarvon is relaxing and a lot of reading is being done…………………..now how is that tomato relish going that I am cooking?
