………and we haven’t moved . . . .Day 17

9 April 2014:

We woke up to more drizzle and on checking the weather map we saw clouds coming across the peninsula every where. We decided to stay where we are until Friday as Point Turton doesn’t seem to get the drenching rains other areas do. The park owner was saying that Point Turton seems to miss most of the bad storms that come over the Peninsula.

We took a drive out to Yorktown, Edithburgh, Port Giles and Stansbury.

At Yorktown I saw the strangest shop combination - - - the local bakery also sold fishing gear, women’s clothing, mens and childrens wear and in the middle of all this is the bakery part. Imagine men in fluro vests walking past the bras & knickers to buy their pies for lunch.

Port Giles is the newest port on the Yorke Peninsula. Port Giles is not a town, but simply a large jetty equipped for bulk handling of grain, and a similarly large grain storage facility. It was opened in 1970, and led to the closure of many of the smaller ports on the peninsula. Port Giles was deliberately built to be able to handle bulk grain, and load it onto larger modern ships. It is much bigger than our facility in Kwinana, Western Australia.

John decided to see if he could catch some more squid and came home with one more to add the 3 he caught yesterday. Denise cooked up garlic calamari rings for an entree tonight.

Tomorrow is definitely our last day at Point Turon as the park is fully booked from Friday because of school holidays.
