26th July 2014
Yesterday we left Townsville and headed north towards Cardwell. On our way out of Townsville we got 3 new tyres put onto the caravan, our final chore in Townsville.
We passed through Ingham where we saw wall to wall cane sugar fields.
We encountered rain a lot of the journey and even at Cardwell we were setting up in a light mist.
There wasn’t a lot to look at as almost everything was shut due to the public holiday in Cardwell for the neighbouring Tully Show. We found a place that sells fresh seafood all caught locally, where we bought a tray of prawns and half a Bug. this was our entree for tea last night.
This morning I got up early to have a look at the sunset. I missed the best part by 10 minutes but it still wasn’t too bad.
Today the rain has cleared but it is very humid, around 80%. We drove up to the Cardwell Lookout to have a look.
John, Denise, Bill and Leanne today have left Wonga Beach to begin their adventure towards the tip of Cape York. We leave Cardwell tomorrow for Mareeba and a possible bush camp at Ringers Rest.
