We packed up at Cardwell and set off for Mareeba. We had had tea at the parks restaurant which was very nice. we both had mud crab filled spring rolls and for mains we both had Seafood platter with Barramundi fish, prawns, squid, and a Moreton Bay Bug. It was yummy ……..wish I could eat this every night.
As we hit the road this morning it started to rain and rain and rain. A quick look at what is available in Innisfail and we had changed plans. We are now in a caravan park on the Johnstone River which runs through the town.
We are back in cane sugar country with miles of sugar cane fields.
The change in this part of the country was the banana plantations we saw.
There is a narrow gauge railway network around the sugar cane fields to carry the small sugar cane trains carting the cut cane.
Luckily it stopped raining long enough for us to get set up. Then it was off to check out Innisfail. We just got onto the main road when we came across a roadside stall selling bananas for $1.50 per kilo. Yes we are going back tomorrow for more.
We decided to drive out to Flying Fish Point to have a look. More rain, but we came to the cafe at the point so stopped for lunch. While waiting for our order, a young boy of about 10 years came in with a bearded dragon on his shoulder. Apparently he often comes in to buy lollies. I have cropped out the boys face but here is the bearded dragon.
More rain so nothing for it but to read and sleep.
