Bowen………………….Day 143

15 August 2014

We had very scratchy internet at Townville where we were staying at Black River Stadium and the same here in Bowen where we are at Glenerin Farmstay which is about 20 kms inland from Bowen.

People we have met in Bowen have told us it never rains in Bowen and it has been like a drought. Guess the Thompsons and the Kennetts have brought the rain with them.

We woke up with rain and will go to bed with rain today. John & Denise re-joined us in Townsville and we headed south to Bowen. We know we are at the northern end of the Whitsundays but because of rain and low cloud we saw almost no islands off shore.

I can’t upload photos because of the bad connection tonight and I haven’t taken many due to the rain, but I did get a “Big Mango” photo today.

The farm we are on is near a railway line and we keep hearing trains go past. The train we saw today was carrying cattle, the first cattle train we have seen.

There are acres (hectares) of tomatoes and capsicums  growing around Bowen along with a lot of Mango trees.

We are staying here tomorrow as they have forecast rain also for tomorrow. At this point we are thinking of going to Ephinstone Dam, but who knows, things could change between now and Sunday.
