John and Denise are back at Wonga Beach where they left their caravan while they were on their big adventure up Cape York. We plan to do nothing and sit here in Townsville until they catch up in 3 to 4 days. Gosh life is hard.
As we have driven around we cross many rivers and creeks. All the creeks are named, many such as you would expect with names like 3 Mile Creek and !0 Mile Creek. However it is the unusual names that you wonder about.
For example:
“Pinch Gut Gully” – was this named by a man whose belt was too tight? Or was the poor horse suffering from a too tight harness?
“Little Saltwater Creek – we never crossed Large Saltwater Creek.
“Deadman’s Gully” – well you can imagine what happened here.
“Double Barrel Creek” – does this refer to the double barrel shotgun?
“Dead Bird Lead Creek was another name needing explanation.
As we are not moving around much the lack of photos is not surprising. Hopefully tomorrow we go up into the near by mountains to Piper’s Lookout. Must be a story there.
